Our FB members were vocal in support of their bargaining in Saint John, NB on January 7th, 2020.
First the local executive of local 60004 (NB/PEI) had a very respectful and productive meeting with the local MP for Saint John-Rothesay and then they held a rally in front of the CBSA office located at 65 Canterbury Street where many other CIU members came out to join them. Also, in a show of Solidarity, other PSAC members, the local executive members of local 60005 UTE also came out in support. The local MP Wayne Long accepted their invitation to the rally and was able to address the members and the medias on site covering the event.
The PSAC-CIU bargaining team representing FB (Border Services) members is returning to the bargaining table later this month and the members wanted to make sure their position was clear. They want to be recognized as law enforcement personnel at the federal level. Although this can’t be achieved at the bargaining table, having Treasury Board representatives fully understand their reasons for seeking this recognition.
The members are also asking for a “25 and out” pension reform, where employees would have the option to retire after 25 years of service without penalty, as is the case for other law enforcement agencies.
Other key issues at the table are pay parity for the FB-02 classification as well as stronger job security provisions, better protections for members from CBSA management, improved work-life balance, and a streamlined grievance process are also among other demands at the bargaining table.
PSAC and CIU will continue to hold the employer’s feet to the fire to get the contract their members need!
