Committee Success Story : Pride in Greater Moncton
Under normal circumstances, the PSAC Regional Committees in the Greater Moncton Area would get together and participate in the pride parade. Given that it wasn’t possible this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the members of the Greater Moncton Human Rights Committee thought it was even more important to play a role in support of the LGBTQ2+ community.
The initial idea was to paint rainbow crosswalks in smaller communities that are close to Moncton. Given that the logistics were quite complicated, they came up with another plan; painting picnic tables with the colors of the rainbow. Trying to go above and beyond, they thought it would be an even better initiative to obtain the tables from CORCAN but it was not possible because the facilities were closed due to the pandemic.
That didn’t stop them. They obtained picnic tables from the municipalities and they got together on July 18th (while practicing physical distancing) and painted the picnic tables to look like rainbows. Some members even used their volunteer leave in advance of the event in order to prepare the materials.
They completed a total of 3 picnic tables and delivered one to the Village of Memramcook and two to the Village of Dorchester.
It earned them a shoutout from their local Member of Parliament and former CHEA-PSAC member, Ginette Petitpas Taylor.
Keep calm…due diligence was done and ensured that our committee members weren’t actually doing bargaining unit work by painting picnic tables for the two villages.
