Report of the Director for Newfoundland & Labrador, Melissa Hyde, October 2012-January 2013

Throughout the last few months it has been a pleasure to serve the membership and be there to help out when possible.

In November 2012, I attended the AGM for TAUMUN along with Bill Walsh, Acting PSAC Regional Representative for St.John’s to help the local president chair his meeting where I provided the oath of office on behalf of the REVP. It was a great opportunity to meet some of the newer members of the PSAC and ones that I'm sure will be more visible in days to come.

As most are aware, the strike is still ongoing with the PSAC members at the St. John's airport. I have visited the line several times to show my support and encouragement and represent the PSAC on the line. There is also another rally scheduled for February 1, 2013 which I plan on attending.

Some PSAC members in the St. John's region are interested in reactivating the Human Rights Committee. I have committed to helping them as much as needed to get this committee off the ground.

At the end of November 2012 I attended a Leadership Summit. There, I met lots of new people and attended some very informative sessions such as a session on mental health, Workforce Adjustment and Roles and Responsibilities of the Union Leader. With the challenges we are being faced with as union members today, those sessions were very important to attend. They provided the required  information and gave the chance to ask questions to have a better understanding. I hope to be able to share this knowledge with members and help them when needed.

Respectfully Submitted,

Melissa Hyde
