Appeal for solidarity for Alberta flood survivors

The Public Service Alliance of Canada extends its solidarity to the vast numbers of Albertans, including members of the PSAC, who have suffered losses during the recent flooding in Southern Alberta.  During a visit to Calgary last weekend, I witnessed the devastating impact of the floods on our members, their families and the communities. This is by far one of the most serious disasters to hit Canada in many years and PSAC is determined to work with all of our members and other labour organizations to coordinate a united response.

PSAC wishes to recognize the dedication of thousands of volunteers and emergency workers from all levels of government for their tireless efforts to provide protection and relief to those affected. We are also proud of our PSAC members who have been involved in various relief efforts and cleanup, including providing support for a devastated senior home and for local food banks, serving meals in the Siksika First Nations, and fundraising to bring solace and support for the thousands of families affected by this disaster.

PSAC would like to reciprocate this support by launching an appeal among Components, Regional Offices, Area Councils, Committees and Locals across the country to support the PSAC Social Justice Fund’s Southern Alberta Solidarity Fund. The Fund will work with the PSAC Prairie Region to channel support to community-based organizations, Aboriginal communities, inner city neighbourhoods, and community partners that provide vital services to the most vulnerable communities in Southern Alberta.

To provide assistance, please send donations made payable to the PSAC Social Justice Fund earmarked for the Southern Alberta Solidarity Fund to:
