Unveiling of 10-foot Dream Catcher

HALIFAX, NS– The Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre in partnership with the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) are hosting a community gathering to unveil a 10-foot Dream Catcher in honour of the 1186 missing and murdered Aboriginal women in Canada.

‘This is an important event, as we feel we have a responsibility to honor and advocate the lost dreams of our missing and murdered Aboriginal sisters across Canada. The unveiling of the dream catcher will demonstrate the visual of just how many 1186 lost spirits represent. We will endeavour to never let their memories or dreams fade.’ said Debbie Eisan, Community Planner from Mi’kmaq Native Friendship Centre.

‘PSAC has always supported the demand for a national and public inquiry into the missing and murdered Aboriginal women in Canada.  We are proud to have partnered with the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre to create this visual reality.’ said Jeannie Baldwin, Regional Executive Vice-President of PSAC Atlantic.

PSAC members and staff also raised a total of $11,760 for the Dream Catcher project at the recent Triennial Convention that was held in Saint John, NB, June 20-22, 2014.
