PSAC members rally in Bathurst to raise awareness of the upcoming federal election
BATHURST, NB – Since May of this year, Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) members in the Atlantic region have been organizing various activities on the 19th of every month in order to raise awareness of the upcoming federal election and the need to have a government that stands up for Canadians and the services they depend on. This month, PSAC members will be joined by the New Brunswick Federation of Labour for their activity in Bathurst, NB.
Nathalie Paulin, Director for members with disabilities on the PSAC Atlantic Regional Council and member of the program and administrative services bargaining unit (treasury board) highlights the importance of the event: “It is crucial that we mobilize the membership as we are currently at the bargaining table focusing on strengthening public services, for Canadians today and for future generations. Together, we are resolved to defend public services and the working conditions of the people who provide them.”
Patrick Colford, President of the New Brunswick Federation of Labour says: “Quality public services play an important role in making sure that Canada’s economic prosperity benefits everyone and not just the wealthy. Investing in public services also provides bigger economic returns to governments than making tax cuts. We are calling on all federal political parties to commit to taking a leadership role in health care, social services that benefits those most in need and creating a national publicly funded child care system.”
Yvon Godin, NDP Member of Parliament for Acadie-Bathurst will also be taking part in the event.
