Area Councils

Area councils are political fora for the PSAC in the region.  They allow discussion, collaboration and activism across Component lines and Directly Chartered Locals (DCLs).  Area Councils are recognized in the PSAC Constitution and their delegates have voice and vote at PSAC National Conventions and the right to submit resolutions to both PSAC National and Regional Conventions.   These bodies are given status by the PSAC through the Regional Executive Vice-President.

To form an Area Council, three Locals from different Components/DCLs must make an application to the PSAC.  Locals must pass a motion of this intent at a Local membership meeting. These Locals must be in a geographical area that will allow meetings to be held at least four times a year.  A letter of this intention must be mailed to the Regional Executive Vice-President and to your Component/DCL.  Once the required three letters are received, the REVP will establish the Area Council. Start up and operational grants are available and the Area Council may decide to charge an affiliation fee.
