The Regional Council establishes the following committees:

The PSAC, other labour unions, the Nova Scotia Federation of Labour, the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, the Ecology Action Centre, ACORN, the Canadian Federation of Students,  and other community groups gathered in the Cal Best Boardroom  to watch and comment on the first budget from this Liberal government.

The PSAC 2016 Nova Scotia Education schedule is ready for the period of January to June  2016.  See poster attached for more information on the courses offered by the PSAC and how to register.

Br Danny Cavanaugh, newly elected president of the Nova Scotia Federation of Labour met with the NS Area Counci1 shortly after his election to outline his vision for the Federation and how he sees PSAC's continued involvement.  The PSAC had 14 delegates to the recent NSFL convention held in Dartmouth in October.

Monday September 7th was a beautiful day as 20 PSAC members and staff joined in the Halifax Labour Day March & Picnic.  The march started at Victoria Park after listening to several rousing speeches and the Labour sounds of SOLIDARIGLEE and then marched to the South Commons for a free BBQ, face painting, balloon animals by our own Milo the Clown (UNDE 80407), and the musical unionized sounds of Joe Murphy.

Despite 5-10 cm of snow and temperatures below freezing 36 members of USGE local 80110 and local 80116 chanted & waved to passing motorists as they protested outside MP Scott Armstrong's local for 19 minutes on their lunch break on the 19th November. They were protesting proposed cuts to sick leave and other concessions from the Conservative government.

PSAC women gathered recently at the Inn at the Pier to talk about their role in saving Canada Post, re-thinking child care, stopping Harper’s cuts and contacting the Senate on Bill C 377 as well as have a little fun. Actions on all these issues was achieved. Guest Speaker J. D. Samuelson spoke and showed her film “Women of Confederation”. We highly recommend this short animated film. Becka Viau, artist and activist, spoke on Saturday and inspired all with her commitment and wisdom on women’s and human rights issues.

Amendments to the Canada Labour Code Part II received Royal Assent in December 2013. Please be advised that the coming into force date of the amendments to Part II of the Canada Labour Code has been set for October 31, 2014 by Treasury Board.
