65 delegates and guests gathered this past weekend in Gander for the 9th NL Triennial Regional Women’s Conference. The event brought together women activists from all overNewfoundland and Labrador and provided an opportunity to interact, discuss and take action on issues of importance.

Tuesday, August 10, 2010 will go down in history as a significant day for the Teaching Assistants' Union of Memorial University.  On that day, TAUMUN's Negotiating Team proudly signed its first collective agreement with MUN.

On Wednesday August 4th, PSAC operated a very successful Think Public booth at the Royal St. John's Regatta.  There was free face painting, balloon animals, Freezies and prize draws.  PSAC Think Public pamphlets were distributed and awareness items in the form of stickers, fans, frisbees and washable tattoos.

On Sunday, July 25, PSAC marched in the St. John's Pride Parade in downtown St. John's, NL.  There were many people in attendance and it was said to be the largest so far in the City.  The parade started at the Colonial Building and marched downtown in front of the Scotia Bank building where the drag races occurred.  Robyn and seven PSAC members of the St. John's and area Locals were in attendance.

On Tuesday, July 20th PSAC held a BBQ at Canadian Coast Guard premises, Southside, St. John's.  The BBQ was well-attended.  In addition to the funds raised, UCTE Local 90915 also made a donation to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.  A good time was had by all.

Graduate, Teaching and Research Assistants at Memorial University of Newfoundland have voted overwhelmingly in favour of a first Collective Agreement with the University. “This is an historic moment,” said Juan Acevedo, President of the Teaching Assistants’ Union of Memorial University of Newfoundland.

The Federal Budget released by the Harper Government has set a clear direction for balancing the budget within the next five years by targeting the federal public service through austerity measures. The budget freezes federal departmental spending with the goal of reducing the debt on the backs of public service workers.
