Health and safety

PSAC is committed to promoting and maintaining the highest degree of physical, mental and social well-being of workers. Staff work closely with local occupational health and safety committees, lobby for better health and safety laws and negotiate health and safety provisions in collective agreements. 

The Health and Safety Committee of the Regional Council works with the REVP and staff to plan and deliver a conference each cycle.

The national Health and Safety Program provides a range of services for members directed by Conventions, the National Board of Directors and the Alliance Executive Committee.

A big thank you to PSAC members who lobbied their local MP to repeal sections of Bill C-4 (2013) that restrict collective bargaining rights and put the health and safety of our members at risk. The PSAC Health & Safety Conferenc e is scheduled to be held on April 22-24, 2016 at the Westin Nova Scotian Hotel, Halifax, NS.  Attached is the call out letter and the application form.  Please refer to those documents for more information on the conference.  Note that the deadline to submit your application is March 11, 2016.

A new Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives study entitled Waiting to Happen: Why we need major changes to the health and safety regime in federally regulated workplaces was released today. The study reveals that the health and safety of over a million workers in the federal government and other federally-regulated workplaces is at risk.

PEI’s fourteenth Annual Provincial Day of Mourning for workers killed an injured on the job was held April 28th at Memorial Hall, Confederation Centre.  A piper led the group to the memorial monument where wreaths were laid in remembrance.    The PEI Area Council, UVAE, and UTE Locals were among the many present.
