National Public Service Week (NPSW) will be held June 14 to 20, 2015.  Once again we are boycotting any participation.  We are asking that you do not take any role in the employer’s organizing committees as the employer may be approaching you shortly.  We encourage you to take part in an activity being organized by PSAC or your local.

“In the current climate of distrust, considering the ongoing assaults coming from the government of Canada and upcoming contract negotiations for thousands of our members, the relevance of such activities is non-existent.”

Earlier today, Parks Canada told our members at the Highlands Links golf course that it had found a successful bidder for its operations. As some of you may recall, the Conservative government had been intent on privatizing this unique part of our national parks.

On the National Day of Mourning, the Public Service Alliance of Canada pays homage to all workers injured on the job and who have lost their lives due to unsafe and dangerous working conditions.

We honour workers like brother Peter Kennedy, who died soon after the 2009 boiler explosion at a Public Works heating plant, and brother Howard Willems, who passed away in 2012 through exposure to asbestos on the job. Brother Willems successfully lobbied for the introduction of legislation requiring all buildings in Saskatchewan containing asbestos to be reported in a public registry.

New Brunswick

Dorchester: Members of USGE locals 60020 & 60128 organized a rally during their lunch break.

St. Andrews: Members of UEW local 60067 wore black.  They provided information on bargaining and also handed out black licorice to their members. (some members ate the licorice others chose to wear it)

Fredericton: The newly elected local executive of USGE local 60003 informed their members regarding the Days of Action events and took a picture of those members to show support for their bargaining team. 

The federal government announced in the budget that it plans to eliminate the existing sick leave provisions for federal public service workers, whether or not an agreement is reached at the bargaining table.

All PSAC members should know that our union will not be intimidated by this threat.  Any move by the government to make unilateral changes to our collective agreement is a violation of our constitutional Charter rights to bargain collectively without government interference.
