Letter to John Williamson, MP for New Brunswick Southwest

Dear Mr. Williamson,

I am writing to you today asking that you do the honorable thing and resign as Member of Parliament for New Brunswick Southwest. Let me elaborate a few reasons why you should be stepping down.

Recently, you used discriminatory language to describe workers of the Temporary Foreign Worker Program and are facing heavy criticism from various fronts including within your own political party. As a former director of communications for Stephen Harper, you are obviously aware of the impacts of using such language. You finally apologized and admitted you had used offensive and inappropriate language regarding the Temporary Foreign Workers Program. Apologizing after making a racist comment does not solve the problem nor will it make ethnic communities feel any better.

I contacted your office on October 17, 2014 requesting you meet with myself and PSAC members residing in your riding to discuss the misinformation you sent to the residents of your constituency by using a ‘ten percenter’. As of today, you have never responded to our request. Therefore, we decided to take the matter into our own hands and we met you at your various ‘Meet your MP’ events to set the record straight on the misinformation you were portraying about civil servants.

To this date, you still haven’t apologized about your use of offensive and inappropriate language regarding civil servants; the workers who deliver quality public services on behalf of the Government of Canada.

Your record speaks for itself: propagate misinformation, cut services in your riding, eliminate good jobs in your riding and use inappropriate language. I sincerely hope you will demonstrate that you respect the job of an elected Member of Parliament and demonstrate that it should still be an ‘Honourable’ job. We ask you that you resign immediately.
