Dear Brothers, Sisters, Members, Friends,
I would like to take this opportunity to properly introduce myself to you. My name is Michelle Neill and I was elected asDirector for Persons with Disabilities at our PSAC’s 7th Triennial Atlantic Convention held in June of 2017.
When I addressed the Persons with Disabilities’ caucus, I advised that I wanted to improve upon a communication network for all persons with disabilities in our Region.
With this letter, I would like to reach out to those who wish to self-identify as a person with a disability to create a mailing list to keep you informed of what is happening with issues surrounding persons with disabilities in our workplaces. The Liberal government is currently debating new Accessibility legislation that will affect all federally-regulated workplaces, such as ferries, train stations, airports, federal departments and agencies, etc. We have many barriers that we need to address, and I need your support to ensure those barriers are brought to the attention of those that make a difference in our lives. Together, we can make a difference and I am honoured to be your leader in this battle for equality.

We are responsible to create our own mailing list; therefore, I ask that you forward this letter to your fellow members who may wish to self-identify as a person with a disability, and encourage them to contact me to be added to the mailing list.
I have been working hard for my first year, and I am looking forward to working on your behalf for the remainder of my term to further our voice among the PSAC and among government venues. I will keep you posted of my efforts every step of the way.

Despite all the magic of social media, letters still pack a serious punch. A letter to the editor, to an MP, to your municipal councilor can make important inroads. PSAC members know more than almost anyone about the public services we provide, and we are best equipped to speak up and write up when these services are under attack.
