PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE DISTRIBUTION
150 Post-Doctoral Fellows at Dalhousie University voted overwhelmingly to join PSAC
October 9, 2014
HALIFAX, NS– Post-Doctoral Fellows at Dalhousie University voted overwhelmingly to form a Union and join the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC).
Since 2004, PSAC has been working hard to better working conditions for academic workers at Canadian universities. They are the research and teaching-staff that make academic programs tick, but rarely get the credit. They are graduate, teaching and research assistants, postdoctoral fellows and associates, part-time instructors and lecturers.
Kelly Holloway is a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Dalhousie University in Halifax and she explains the importance on joining a Union: ‘We need a collective voice in ensuring that we have the best working conditions possible in order to do our research. The Union provides continuity and representation we need as workers.’
Jeannie Baldwin, Regional Executive Vice-President of PSAC, welcomes the new Union members with open arms: ‘We are proud that Post-Doc Fellows at Dalhousie University decided to join our Union and we look forward in reaching a fair and meaningful collective agreement that will improve their working conditions and recognize the important work they do.’
