CHARLOTTETOWN, PE –Agriculture union local 90004 in partnership with the Agriculture Union and the Public Service Alliance of Canada – Atlantic Region, purchased a 1200 lbs. heifer at the 66th Annual PEI Easter Beef Sale that was held on March 24, 2017.  MacPhee Meats offered their services for the meat cutting and packaging.  The beef was donated to the Charlottetown food bank and the Summerside Salvation Army.

PSAC’s Regional Executive Vice-President, Jeannie Baldwin, explains the idea behind this tradition: “Unions have always supported communities and this is a perfect example where we get to help people in need and at the same time promote the work done by PSAC members.  Our members do the valuable work of conducting research in order to help farmers and producers produce the best food possible.  We also play the vital role of inspecting the food we eat.  These are vital public services that every Canadian can rely on.”

Agriculture Union local 90004 is comprised of 150 members who are employed by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.  The Agriculture union is a Component of the Public Service Alliance of Canada which represents over 8,000 members who work for the CFIA, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Canadian Grain Commission, Canadian Dairy Commission, Public Service Commission, Department of National Defence (language training) and the Canadian School of Public Service.
