Cleaners at CFB Greenwood Celebrate their Indeterminate Employment Status

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

GREENWOOD, NS – Members of the Union of National Defence Employees (UNDE) who are employed as cleaners at CFB Greenwood signed their letter of employment on January 31, 2019 confirming their indeterminate employment status.

The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and UNDE jointly launched a campaign in September 2018 to put a halt to the privatization of good public service jobs in Greenwood and were successful when the Department of National Defense (DND) shelved the project and committed to creating a new process for future reviews.

Shirley Peck, a cleaner at CFB Greenwood for 9 years, is ecstatic knowing that she now has job security thanks to her union and the assistance of the local community. In her words: “Right from the beginning of our fight back campaign, I knew we were going to be successful because we had the support of our union and our community. I’m thankful that the decision makers made the right decision and kept these jobs as public service jobs”
