PSAC members at UPEI to hold virtual press conference about current labour unrest
CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI – Members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) employed by the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) will be holding a joint virtual press conference on December 2 at 12 pm with the UPEI Faculty Association in order to provide an update on the current labour unrest.
PSAC Local 86000 represents 34 graduate student workers and postdoctoral fellows at UPEI who have made the decision to join together to make improvements in their workplace. UPEI is using legal tactics in order to delay the bargaining of these employee’s first collective agreement.
Colleen Coffey, PSAC’s Executive Vice President for the Atlantic Region summarizes the challenges faced by the workers: ‘Although these are the University’s professional researchers and educator workers, they are faced with precarious work, rising debt and low pay. They deserve to be recognized for their work and commitment to UPEI. I urge Dr. Alaa Abd-El-Aziz to recognize these workers, save time and money and commence bargaining.’
WHEN: Wednesday, December 2nd at 12 pm (noon)
HOW: Zoom
