Directly Chartered Locals

The PSAC is comprised of 15 Components and Directly Chartered Locals (DCLs). DCLs represent members employed by private employers, municipal governments and the academic sector, just to name a few. 
 
This page is dedicated to DCLs.  You can download booklets and information sheets that will help you run an effective local.  We will also be posting updates on bargaining, campaigns and other information related to DCLs.  After all, in the Atlantic Region, we have 18 DCLs:

In the event that the DCLs need an issue addressed at the National Board of Directors (NBoD), they do so via PSAC-Atlantic’s Regional Executive Vice-President (REVP).  On the regional level, they can contact their director that represent them at the PSAC-Atlantic Regional Council.  Those officers are elected at the PSAC-Atlantic Triennial Regional Convention that takes place every three years.

Members of PSAC local 60888 who are employed by the St. Thomas University Students’ Union in Fredericton, NB signed their new collective agreement on Wednesday. The main highlights of this agreement that expires on April 18, 2020 include:   -Significant wage increase whereas the ‘minimum wage’ will be set at $15/hour. -Language covering ownership rights; copyright, patents, intellectual property, etc. -Academic freedom recognized in strong language provisions.

The Lecturers’ Union of Memorial University of Newfoundland (LUMUN) – Memorial University is comprised of 70 Post Docs and between 200-300 Per Course Instructors (PCIs) who work at the following locations: Memorial University of NL, Grenfell College, Marine Institute, Labrador Institute, Harlow Campus and research station in Bonne Bay.

On November 26-27, 18 PSAC members took part in the Directly Chartered Locals (DCLs) conference that was held in Moncton, NB.  The focus of the conference was to provide training on how to write and adopt resolutions at Conventions. Colleen Hodder, A/Regional Executive Vice-President of PSAC-Atlantic felt the enthusiasm in the room: “It was exciting to see the members write resolutions and debate them passionately.  We gave them all the tools necessary to play an active role at our upcoming Regional Convention and I’m sure they will come prepared.”
