PSAC Regional Women's Committees (RWCs) provide an opportunity for PSAC women to organize in their regions and work together collectively. They give recognition and credibility to women's rights as an important concern of the union. Committees aim to inform and educate women on the political, social, economic, and workplace issues that affect them. RWCs also speak for women with a strong, common voice and advocate policies that promote women's rights. They also mobilize women to participate in the union and to take action on the issues and empower women with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to exercise effective leadership.

Members of the Halifax Regional Women's Committee celebrated International Women's Day at a sold out breakfast sponsored by the Nova Scotia Federation of Labour Women's Committee on Wednesday, March 8th.
Rhonda Doyle LeBlanc, who is also the Maritime Director for Women, received the Sister of the Year Award. Guest speaker for the breakfast was Becky Kent former NDP, MLA and now the Provincial Coordinator for the Transition House Association of Nova Scotia. Also joining in the celebration was Danny Cavanagh, President of the Federation of Labour.

Dear Sisters and Brothers,
Although we need to celebrate the many achievements made towards equality, there remains a lot of work. To this day, women are being denied equal pay for equal work and they are subject to discrimination and threats when they hold positions of power. We can look in our own country where Alberta Premier Rachel Notley faces threats on a regular basis – because she’s a woman.
Regardless of political affiliation, religious belief or even sexual orientation, women should be treated equally, period!
