Report of the Director for Francophone Members, Shanny Doucet, March 2012 - September 2012

This is the report on my activities since the last Council.

For the International Women’s Day, I took part in the activity organized by the Social Committee at work.  A chicken fricot lunch was served at this event, and Local 60018 offered mums to the women.

National Francophone Week was held from March 19 to 25.  Several events were held in several communities.  The activity schedule was sent out to my list of Francophone contacts in Atlantic Canada.

On March 29, I took part in the release of the federal budget at the Moncton Press Club, and during the event, I was PSAC’s spokesperson for the Francophone media.  I made comments and offered (?) reactions live on Radio-Canada television after the budget was tabled.

From April 30 to May 4, I attended the National PSAC Convention in Ottawaas a delegate of the Greater Moncton Regional Council.  I also sat on the General Resolutions Committee.

From May 23 to 26, I was a trainer at the AtlanticSchoolin Antigonish, NS.  I facilitated the Steward Advanced Training Program Course, which was offered in French.

On June 3, I took part in the demonstration at the FrederictonAirportto present the $500 that we raised at the AtlanticSchool.

On June 4, I was invited to take part in a discussion forum at the New Brunswick Federation of Labour convention in St. John, NB.  The topic of discussion was how paying less tax would affect citizens in small communities.

On August 9, the Canadian Labour Congress invited me to facilitate a workshop for young people at the Blair Doucet Summer Camp at the Universityof Moncton.  My workshop dealt with sweatshops and the minimum working age.

On September 15, the National Day of Action, an activity organized by the Greater Moncton Regional Council will be held at the Farmers’ Market in Bouctouche.  An information forum will be set up to increase public awareness of the announced closure of the experimental farm of the Department of Agriculture and the We Are All Affected campaign.  Food will be collected, and corn on the cob will be offered free of charge in exchange for donations or food which will then be turned over to the food bank in the region.  A make-up stand will be set up for children at no charge.

If you have any questions and/or comments, please feel free to contact me.
