Please find below my report from October 2012 – January 2013.
I have been quite busy as part of the TC Group Bargaining team, finding ourselves across the table from Treasury Board who has a clear Conservative Mandate has been frustrating to say the least. We found ourselves in the PIC process (Public Interest Commission) which was interesting to be a part of. The PIC report came out largely on the side of PSAC members, unfortunately this is not a binding process and we are unsure if Treasury Board will agree to the findings at this point in time.
Since the October Council Meeting, I have done the following:
As Chair of the PSAC Halifax Human Rights Committee we held two meetings and did some community outreach. In November we supported Halifax Connects which is an annual even that services approximately 800 individuals who are homeless or living in poverty. We asked for donations from our members for comfort packages and also donated some funds and shopped for items for the comfort packs. Some committee members and colleagues, family and friends, donated their time to roll cutlery and set up booths for the event.
Late November and Early December I attended the PSAC Leadership Summit followed immediately by the PSAC National Human Rights Committee meetings. Each of the designated groups took some time to plan their aspects of the upcoming PSAC National Human Rights Conference.
In December the PSAC Halifax Human Rights Committee (HHRC) packaged 75 bags of hats, mitts, socks and other items for Souls Harbour Rescue Mission and for Metro Turning Point, both places services the homeless or those in need. Also in December the PSAC HHRC donated funds and prep time for a Community Christmas dinner open to everyone, lead by and supported by Halifax’s LGBT Community.
