Busy times are upon us thanks to this Conservative Majority Government.
Within my component and in my local I have been non-stop supporting and meeting with my surplus members of the closed down Dartmouth Print Production Centre and management to ensure they are found placement and given the support they are entitled to.
There have been a lot of mental health issues in our workplace and I have been pushing for education and tools for both Managers and Union Representatives as we are often the first responders to members in psychological distress. I continue to work on this and advocate for it every opportunity I have.
After our meeting in October, 2012 I spoke on behalf of the REVP at a PIPSC Rally against cuts to the Public Service.
In November I attended the CCPA policy launch on Federal Government cuts: A Public Disservice to Atlantic Canada. I also attended the PSAC Halifax Human Rights Committee meeting to plan our winter activities.
In December I attended the PSAC Leadership Summit. As well the PSAC Halifax Human Rights Committee packaged up care packages for Soul’s Harbour Rescue Mission and Metro Turning Point Homeless Shelter. We discussed the PSAC National Human Rights Committee meetings that took place after the leadership summit, and discussed some other upcoming events and initiatives.
Thus far in January I attended the CCPA Policy launch on Globalization, Trade Treaties and the Future of the Atlantic Fisheries.
Also in January as part of the PSAC Atlantic Education Committee I took part in a weekend strategy and planning session for the next 3 year education cycle.
Respectfully Submitted,
Lori Walton
PSAC Atlantic Council Director, NS
