Report of the Director for Nova Scotia, Lori Walton, June 2011 – January 2012

It has been an honour once again to be elected as PSAC Atlantic Council Director for Nova Scotiafor another term.

Activities:

Since being elected for another term I have had the opportunity along with my other directors to attend an Atlantic Council Team Building Retreat and Training Session.  We had to opportunity to review the PSAC Members Plan, to provide feedback and have a brainstorming session surrounding possible political actions and direction over the next 3 years.

In July I joined other PSAC Brothers and Sisters for the Halifax Pride Parade.

In September I marched with my other labour activists in the Labour Day March and Picnic.

In November I participated in the welcome back Rally for the Occupy Nova Scotia movement at the Grand Parade Square.

Most recently I acted as Moderator for PSACs lobby of the NDP Atlantic Caucus, and chaired an excellent planning / strategy session following that lobby with PSAC activists.

Social Justice Work:

Along with my family and other activists I was able to participate in packing and delivering 250 shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child.

I participated and organized my workplace for APSARs Canned Milk drive; managing to contribute 65 cans of canned milk for this cause.

Along with my family and the Human Rights Committee I was able to participate in the packaging of care packages for Metro Turning Point, Bryony House, Phoenix House and Souls Harbour Rescue Mission.

Along with Sister Dana Bailey, we prepared Sandwiches for Soul’s Harbour Rescue Mission which provides meals to the community from 1 – 4 p.m.everyday during Monday to Friday.

I am currently on the Ethiopia Project Fundraising Committee with other community and labour actvists.

Respectfully Submitted,

Lori Walton
