Women

From the time equity issues were first raised in the 1970s, through the CR strike of 1980, to the creation of regional women's committees, women in PSAC have been pushing for equality both within PSAC and in society in general. The PSAC Women's Program organizes conferences at regional and national levels, develops campaigns and initiatives on issues related to women's equality.

Women make up more than half of the PSAC membership. Regional Women’s Committees (RWC) were established in the mid-1980s to further address women’s issues and concerns such as the systemic discrimination and barriers working women face within and outside their workplace. These committees provide important forums to strategize for positive change in women’s lives.

Becka Viau, artist and activist, spoke on Saturday and inspired all with her commitment and wisdom on women’s and human rights issues.
