Black History Month 2021 (Atlantic Initiative)

Sisters, Brothers and Friends,

Brother Neville David and I would like to highlight the importance of Black History Month. Please find enclosed, a poster developed by PSAC for you to promote in your workplace whenever it becomes safe to return to the workplace. In the meantime, we challenge you and your co-workers to share this infographic on social media during the month of February: Black History Month.

In 2020, we saw countless numbers of incidents that highlighted systemic racism in Canada and around the world. We also witnessed the outcry of individuals and organizations that vowed to denounce and begin destroying systemic racism.

PSAC will continue to advocate on behalf of our members. The federal government must acknowledge and address the historical racism that Black Canadians and people of Caribbean and African descent have experienced not only through colonization and slavery, but also the racist immigration, education, criminal justice, economic, and employment laws and policies that continue to marginalize and oppress these communities.

Although Black History Month is celebrated in February, let’s commit to celebrating the contributions of Black people in Canada and defend their rights, on a daily basis and not just one month of the year.

In solidarity,
