On Thursday October 25, 2012, members of the NDP caucus will be wearing a purple ribbon in solidarity with public sector workers affected by the recent cuts to jobs and public services.  This initiative originated with a PSAC member, and I am encouraging our members from coast to coast to coast to join in and wear a purple ribbon to demonstrate that we are all affected by the cuts, and we oppose them.

DEERLAKE, NL – After just five days of negotiations, a tentative agreement was reached this morning between the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and the Deer Lake Regional Airport Authority Inc.  PSAC is the bargaining agent for the 15 members of the Union of Canadian Transportation Employees (UCTE) Local 90945 who provide operational and technical services, including runway clearing, firefighting, electrical and mechanical maintenance of equipment, as well as administrative services, at the airport.

Public Service Alliance of Canada members came out to support a PIPSC (Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada) rally to save jobs and public services at the Grand parade on Friday, Oct 19th.  Lori Walton, Director, addressed the crowd of roughly 75 people on behalf of the PSAC.

DARTMOUTH, NS, OCT 10, 2012 – Members of Parliament Robert Chisholm and Megan Leslie  have backed a coalition fighting the closure of Parks Canada’s Regional Archeological Facility in Dartmouth.  The MPs will tour the federal lab Friday morning and be available to media for comment directly afterwards alongside representatives from labour and Maritime Aboriginal Peoples and Acadian communities.
