Regional Council

The members of the Atlantic Regional Council are elected geographically (NS, NB, NL, PE) and/or by constituency (Equity Group, non-TB, etc).  All Council members are assigned to work with Committees of the Council.  It is in the balance of these two functions that Council members define their roles and responsibilities.

The primary purpose of Council is to represent to the REVP the needs of membership in the Atlantic.  Council joins the REVP in providing leadership within their regions and/or constituencies and Committees.

Council works collaboratively as requested by the REVP in providing leadership on PSAC and other Labour or social justice campaigns and to mobilize the membership in support of Collective Bargaining.  The REVP and Council recognize and appreciate the role of staff in delivery of these and other functions.  Working together we have a positive and energetic approach to leadership.

Dear Brothers, Sisters, Members, Friends, I would like to take this opportunity to properly introduce myself to you. My name is Michelle Neill and I was elected asDirector for Persons with Disabilities at our PSAC’s 7th Triennial Atlantic Convention held in June of 2017. When I addressed the Persons with Disabilities’ caucus, I advised that I wanted to improve upon a communication network for all persons with disabilities in our Region.

PSAC members met with Wayne Easter, MP for Malpeque, to discuss Phoenix and Treasury Board Bargaining. (Wayne Easter, Heather Ford, Michelle Neill and Les Smith. Brian Watts also participated but he was the cameraman.)

Greetings Sisters and Brothers, We are writing on behalf of Atlantic Council to all non-treasury board (non-TB) and separate employer members of the PSAC who want their voices heard on the regional council. The non-TB / separate employer portfolio is very diverse, and its members face unique challenges as they are not subject to some of the benefits of being included under the umbrella of the Treasury Board, or, in the case of separately employed members, even under the Federal Government as a whole.

As your Director for LGBTQ2+ members on the PSAC Atlantic Regional Council, I will soon be joining many PSAC members and allies across Canada and people around the world to recognize the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia. I would like to take this time to celebrate our diversity and bring attention to LGBTQ2+ rights as human rights.

Congratulations to Shanny Doucet for receiving the Woman in Leadership Award 2018 by the New Brunswick Federation of Labour.  The award was presented to her by our Regional Executive Vice-President, Colleen Coffey on February 17.

Hello to all PSAC members in the Atlantic Region, When I attended the PSAC Atlantic Regional Convention in June of this year, I had not had any intentions of running for any position. I was in attendance as an observer, and I was planning on observing and learning. I also planned to help where I could. Helping is what I like to do, whether it’s through supporting my fellow union brothers and sisters in their pursuits, or educating members at the local level about the importance of union engagement.

January 9, 2018 Elder Catherine Anne Martin Blind Bay, NS Sister Catherine, It is my absolute pleasure to be writing you on behalf of our 18,000 members in the Atlantic Region to offer you our sincerest congratulations on your appointment to the Order of Canada.

I am in shock. Disappointed, disgusted, shocked. I have just read the CBC News article on members of law enforcement agencies of all types dressing in what can only be described as racist costumes, and I cannot for the life of me comprehend how this was allowed to happen. To make matters worse, these photos were not leaked or obtained from a private social media account; they were published with pride by NL Law Enforcement Torch Run!
