Saint John, August 30, 2019 – The members of the Union of Canadian Transportation Employees (UCTE), a component of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) working at Saint John Airport, voted last night in favour of a strike mandate. “The members have given their bargaining team a strong strike mandate, by a large majority. Our members are prepared to fight for what they want, so the table is set for the last day of mediation on September 5,” said Colleen Coffey, Regional Executive Vice-President of PSAC-Atlantic.

The Breaking the Silence (BTS) project is supported by the PSAC Social Justice Fund.  BTS engages members to deepen their understanding of Guatemala and to build solidarity with Mayan communities. Breaking the Silence https://www.tatacentre.ca/index.php/partnerships/bts (English only) is organizing a delegation to travel to Guatemala in 2019 to work with and learn from grass roots organizations empowering communities.

As your Director for LGBTQ2+(Pride) members on the PSAC Atlantic Council, I will soon be joining many PSAC members within the Atlantic Provinces and across Canada, and people around the world in recognizing the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia. I would like to invite you to join me on this day in celebrating our diversity and bringing attention to the fact that LGBTQ2+ rights are human rights.

PSAC National President Chris Aylward and Vice-President Magali Picard are bringing their cross-country Leadership Tour to the Atlantic.  From June 2 -14, 2019, they will be making stops in 18 communities to visit workplaces, attend meetings, speak at events and to talk to members one-on-one.  Our four regional offices are busily working with members throughout the Atlantic to create opportunities for our national leaders to connect with as many members as possible.  The following events are open to all PSAC members.

Members of the recently formed GMYWC are now in full recruitment mode.  They held their first information booth at one of the Federal building in Moncton on May 8th to meet young PSAC members.  This committee is open to all PSAC members who are 35 or under and who work in the Greater Moncton area.  If you would like to be added to their distribution list to see upcoming events, simply send an e-mail to the committee’s chair at:  gmywc.chair@gmail.com

This year Isabelle Forest and Charline Caissie from the Greater Moncton Area Council attended the ceremony organized by the Moncton District Labour Council to lay a wreath in memory of the workers who have lost their lives or suffered injury or illness on the job.
