Human rights

The PSAC Human Rights Program is based on a mobilizing approach, rather than an advocacy approach. This means that the union provides support to members from equity groups to discuss, identify and strategize around how to best address issues of particular concern to them.

The Greater Moncton Human Rights Committee give back to the community

The Moncton Greater Human Rights Committee may be a small committee, but the work they do is amazing!   When they won the first price of $500 dollars in the PSAC snow sculpture contest, they decided to help two local community organizations.   They presented their first donation of $250 to The Humanity Project.

St. John's Pride Parade

The PSAC Young Workers Committee is joining the St. John's Pride Party. We are seeking members to to join us on July 26 as we walk in the parade which leaves from St. John’s City Hall at 2 PM and finishes at Quidi Vidi Lake where we will be distributing cotton candy.

Breaking the Silence

The Greater Moncton Human Rights committee donated $150.00 to Breaking the Silence - Staffing Fund during the annual general meeting held in Tatamagouche, NS, June 21 - 24, 2015.  Breaking the Silence is a voluntary network of people in the Maritimes who began to organize in 1988 to support the efforts of Guatemalans struggling for political, social, and economic justice. 
Church bells ring in memory of murdered aboriginal women

Yesterday in Charlottetown, church bells rang for an hour and a half to draw attention to the missing and murdered Indigenous women in Canada.  1,181 times.... Rev. John Clarke, the minister at St.Paul's Anglican Church, hopes to have many people attend next Wednesday, June 13th at 2 p.m. with hand bells.   Those in attendance will form a circle and take turns ringing their bells.  It is hoped there will be enough people in attendance to  to go around the church and park!

Helping others on International Human Rights Day

On December 10th, members of the Greater Moncton PSAC Human Rights committee volunteered their time and energy to help the local food depot prepare Christmas boxes.  Over all, they helped packing 166 boxes that will be distributed to food banks around Moncton and Shediac this holiday season.

On December 10th we reflect on human rights in Canada and around the world.  The day commemorates the UN’s 1948 adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
