The PSAC Greater Moncton Young workers Committee, Women's Committee, Human Rights Committee and the Area Council are all coming together to work on three different projects to make a difference for the less fortunate people of our region. The Pandemic and the winter coming are certainly not easy for some of them and we are hoping to do a small difference.
Blessing Bags and Acts of Kindness – UPDATE NOV 23, 2020: SINCE MONCTON IS NOW IN AN ORGANGE PHASE WITH COVID, THE ACTIVITY WILL NEED TO BE DONE DIFFERENTLY, THE WRAPPING ACTIVITY IS CANCELLED a group of volunteers, with Shanny Doucet, our director for Francophone members on the PSAC Atlantic, are collecting items to prepare bags of kindness for homeless people in Moncton. For this project we are looking for volunteers willing to come together on November 25th from 6:00 pm to 9:00 p.m. at the Moncton Lion’s Community Center, 473 St. George Street to wrap items and stuff the kindness bags. Physical distancing and health and Safety will be respected.
Princess and the Purse Campaign: This Campaign was started 6 years ago by a local woman named Lorraine Cormier who wanted to do something special for the less fortunate women in our community especially at the hardest time of the year Christmas. Over the past years 750 purses have been donated with the goal this year being 1000 purses. This project is being led by the PSAC Moncton Regional Women’s Committee (RWC) and is asking for gently used purses which then gets disinfected, cleaned and packed with items for delivery before the holidays to women in our community who don’t have the means to treat themselves.
These purses get distributed to Crossroads for Women, Moncton Headstart, YWCA, Harvest House, Pregnancy Resource Centre, Ensemble, Youth Care Centre and the Women’s shelter in Shediac. The RWC is therefore looking for donations of used purses and items to go inside such as: gum, bath bombs, smelly shampoo, deodorant, body lotion, lip gloss, jewelry, samples of perfume and makeup, nail polish, brush, combs etc. Basically, anything that women usually find in their own purses and we often take for granted. Also if your local could afford to donate financially to this cause please contact Heather Fraser at this email heather.fraser@moncton.ca
If your local donates money, cheque can be made to The Moncton Regional Women’s Committee and Heather will purchase what is required and keep receipts for your files and get the receipts to you after the purses have bene delivered. Drop off for your purses, items and donations will be accepted in the parking lot of the Moncton Coliseum on Friday November 6, between 6:00-7:00 PM – Look for Heather Fraser in a blue FORD F150. Let us make a difference this year by cheering up women through this wonderful charity!
Feed the homeless: The Young workers committee has committed to buy a Pizza meal to be delivered at the House of Nazareth on a Sunday in December. If some of your members would want to participate in the delivery, we could use a few more members. Further, if some of you are great cooks and would like to get together to cook a great dessert for 100 homeless people, it could be added to the meal! Currently anticipated date could be December 13th or 20th, Exact date, and meeting location to be determined to the volunteers only. If you and/or some of your members would be interested and would like to rise to the challenge, please contact one of the co-signed below, we will be happy to further discuss with you how you can participate. Let’s show that PSAC members care and that we can do a difference in our community! Have the discussion in your local and see how you can help out. Thank you all!!!
