Our hearts break today in learning of the horrifying murders in New Zealand.  On behalf of PSAC members in the Atlantic Region, I would like to extend our solidarity to Muslim communities everywhere, especially in Christchurch.

But our rage also grows today and so does our determination to confront, call out, dismantle and disempower white supremacy.  Unions everywhere must be leaders in this urgent fight.  We encourage members to attend vigils in your communities and to offer support where you can.

ST. JOHN’S, NL – The highly-anticipated 2019 Federal Budget will be announced on March 19, and union members will gather in St. John’s to watch it and discuss what it means for the labour movement.

As many of you may know, there is a possibility of a strike by roughly 4100 workers at 46 New Brunswick nursing homes. I am writing to ask that you support these workers in their fight for fair and respectful working conditions.

On March 7, 90% of workers voted in favour of strike action, rejecting an offer from the New Brunswick government that would keep them overworked and underpaid.  On Sunday, the Government of New Brunswick obtained a court order suspending their right to strike for 10 days and undermining these workers’ labour rights.

ST. JOHN’S, NL – Members of the Lecturers’ Union of Memorial University have ratified a new collective agreement after a prolonged round of bargaining which began in April 2017.  LUMUN represents two bargaining units consisting of roughly 330 per-course instructors – academic workers who teach up to two courses per semester both in-class and by distance - and 95 postdoctoral fellows.

This International Women’s Day, workers and women are calling on all federal political parties to commit to a plan for affordable, high-quality child care ahead of the federal election.

It has been nearly 50 years since the report of the Royal Commission on the Status of Women called for a universal child care program to help achieve economic equality for women. In 2019, women and workers need every party to be a #ChildCareChampion

Tell all party leaders that we need a #ChildCareChampion!

UTE Local 60005 in Saint John, NB held a demonstration in front of their building on February 14th (Valentine’s Day) asking CRA and the Prime Minister to show their hearts at the bargaining table.
