The Greater Moncton Human Rights committee was presented with a plaque from the Common Front for Social Justice in recognition for it's contribution towards the "Stand Up Against Poverty Challenge" for the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty held on October 17th.

PSAC members representing various Components were on hand at the National Day of Mourning ceremony held April 28th at Province House.  Attending the event were Ian LeClair, Laurie LeClair and Karolyn Walsh from UVAE 90001; Dawn Hardy and Angela Davison from UTE 90006; Jacinta Stewart from NAT 90040: and Gary Bannister, retired PSAC Representative.

PSAC members across N.B. have remembered workers who have been killed or injured on the job on April 28th.  Ceremonies marking the National Day of Mourning for 2010 were held in various locations throughout N.B.

For want of a few more pairs of hands, new immigrants to Canada will have to wait longer gain citizenship.Canada Employment and Immigration Union president Jeannette Meunier-McKay detailed how the departmental spending freeze announced in this years budget will affect immigrants in a presentation to the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration

Approximately 100 persons gathered in front of Moncton City Hall on April 23rd, in support of the NB Coalition for Pay Equity.  The Coalition was recently informed their federal funding would not be renewed.

Bargaining isn't going well between the 53 members of PSAC Local 69081 and the Listuguj Mi'gmaq Government.Members of the directly chartered local were holding an information picket March 31 outside the band office when the Listuguj Chief paid a visit to the line.Chief Alison Metallic claimed to be unaware of the problems between negotiators for the band and the union. Chief Metallic also said the much-anticipated wage offer from management didn't exist.

UVAE 90001 members Jody Lapierre and Debi Buell participated in a fundraising event on March 30 at the Jean Canfield Building.  They were arrested and put in jail - for a good cause!  Money raised to "get out of jail" went to the Government of Canada Charitable Workplace Campaign.

«...There is no power like the power of the people, and the power of the people won't stop!....» was among the many slogans chanted by some PSAC members from all over N.B. who joined the crowd of approximately 2,500 people gathered in front of the NB Legislature in protest against the sale of NB Power on Saturday March 20th.

A Talking Union Basics (TUB) course was held March 6-7 at the PSAC Regional Office.Members took time out to celebrate International Women's Day by viewing a segment on Women's History followed by a short quiz.  All were winners and enjoyed sharing the prize which was an IWD Cake.Mary Doucette, UTE Local 90006 made an IWD display for the Summerside Tax Centre.

Approximately 40 members attended the Pension information session in Summerside. Jeannie Baldwin, REVP – Atlantic, gave a very spirited and informative talk on events leading up to our concerns over protecting Federal Public Sector pensions.
