The newly formed PSAC local 60550 local executive took advantage of the Graduate Student Association's orientation week to meet their new members and have them sign their PSAC application cards.This local is the latest addition to the PSAC in New Brunswick and represents Teaching Assistants (TA's) and Research Assistants (RA's) working on the UNB campuses in Fredericton and Saint John. They are currently in bargaining for their first collective agreement.The activity was a success.  In only a few days they managed to get more than 140 cards signed.

The PSAC had a kiosk at the Marsh Festival in Sackville, NB on July 10th.  Approximately 200 community members signed our petition and postcards to MP Dominic LeBlanc in support of keeping the Westmorland Institution Farm open.  The PSAC was promoting locally grown plants, vegetables and meat from the Institution.  Also in attendance was the Mayor of Dorchester and the media.

The position of Federal Labour Affairs Officer (Health and Safety Workplace Inspector) in Eastern Nova Scotia (Pictou, Guysborough and Antigonish) is being eliminated.• There are over 400 worksites in Eastern Nova Scotia.• Nova Scotia has three times the disabling injuries as Newfoundland; twice as many as New Brunswick; and 20 times as many as Prince Edward Island; yet one of the three positions (the other two are located in Halifax) is being eliminated.
