Over the course of a summer where public services are even more threatened by the federal government, the Halifax office of PSAC was working hard to bring together its members and educate the public on the important work being done by the public sector.The summer kicked off when the PSAC brought its Save Our Farms campaign to a garden fair hosted by Halifax MP Megan Leslie. Attendees were very supportive, and surprised to learn that such an amazing program was on the chopping block. Well over a hundred people signed the petition to save the prison farm program.

PSAC members gathered with family, friends and the labour community to celebrate labour day in the sun. PSAC invited Derek James of the Wandering Brush Collective to paint faces, tie balloons and bring smiles.

Members of UPCE Local 80823 of the National Philatelic Centre recently participated in a fundraiser for local hospitals.

The province of New-Brunswick and the Public Service Alliance of Canada were alive with color this past month as the cities of Fredericton, Saint John and Moncton celebrated their respective Pride weeks, all with the participation of the PSAC.After walking in both the Fredericton and Saint John pride parades, Sandy Harquail, LGBT Director for PSAC Atlantic, was the moderator for Moncton River of Pride’s community forum, which focused on the celebration of Trans people and was also attended by other members and employees of the PSAC.

Workers at Alaqsite’w Gitpu School in the Listuguj First Nation did not go on strike August 26 as anticipated.An August 26 letter from the lawyer for the Listuguj First Nation Government clarified the Chief and Council’s bargaining position on wages for school staff.  Based on this communication, an agreement seemed closer than expected. The Union contacted the Employer’s lawyer immediately and asked to return to the bargaining table.

Tuesday, August 10, 2010 will go down in history as a significant day for the Teaching Assistants' Union of Memorial University.  On that day, TAUMUN's Negotiating Team proudly signed its first collective agreement with MUN.

Summer months didn't stop the USGE/PSAC members in Miramichi from working hard to save their jobs and the long gun registry.

Our last Think Public luncheon was held on August 24th at the Charlottetown Legion.  This luncheon was held for members working in the downtown core of Charlottetown and was catered by the Legion.

This year events for Pride Week in Moncton were organized around the international theme of One heart, one world, one pride.The week was a great success; everything from the flag raising, to the first pride luncheon, community forum on celebrating trans people, family activities, film, parade, etc.
