CORNER BROOK, NL - Veterans in Corner Brook and across the country are mobilizing to stop the closure of the nine Veterans Affairs offices they rely on for face-to-face services. Supporting them in Corner Brook is a chorus of community members, local organizations, Veterans Affairs Canada workers, unions, and municipal government.

The Miramichi area Council was pleased to welcome Chris Aylward, National Executive Vice President and other PSAC representatives on Oct 24th to Miramichi.  For the occasion, the Area Council organized an information Town Hall meeting and approximately 50 PSAC members took advantage of the offer to hear the speakers.

On October 19th and 20th, 2013 PSAC members representing 8 Locals completed the "Teaching Union Basics" course in Halifax.  This course is the first introduction to the PSAC for most members and continues to be the foundation for more advanced union education.  Keep checking http://psacatlantic.ca/our-organization/education-program in order to find out when the next courses are taking place near you!

On October 3rd, 2013 residents of Sydney attended a town hall meeting at Branch 12 of the Royal Canadian Legion that was organized by the Public Service Alliance of Canada.  The Federal Government plans to close the Sydney, NS, Veterans Affairs office which will have a widespread negative effect on over 4200 veterans who rely on their services. 

We are very pleased to have special guest speaker Stéphane Grenier who is a former member of the Canadian Military.  Having served over 29 years, he faced his own undiagnosed post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) upon his return from Rwanda.  He will account his personal journey to recovery and how he dealt with mental health issues.
