Need a bit more time to fill out your 2015 PSAC Atlantic School application? We’re extending the deadline to Friday, April 3, 2015. And remember! If you haven’t taken the Talking Union Basics course, but have some equivalent community or union experience, you are eligible to apply. Built around the theme Building our Union. Building our Power, the school will take place from May 27-31, 2015, in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. All costs related to attending are covered.

The Conservative government is planning to introduce legislation that would allow for the conversion of defined benefit plans to target benefit plans. The legislation would affect federally regulated pensions for workers and retirees at Crown Corporations like Canada Post and Nav Canada, as well as airport authorities, among others. The change from defined benefit to target benefit would mean that employees would not know with any certainty what their pension benefits would be in retirement.  Current retirees could see their promised benefits reduced.

On December 10th we reflect on human rights in Canada and around the world.  The day commemorates the UN’s 1948 adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

During the Regional Council meeting that was held Nov. 22-23, Council members and guests took a picture in support of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers’ efforts to Save Canada Post.  From December 2 to the 24th, we will be sharing a picture every day on social media (Facebook and Twitter) to demonstrate our support.
