Thank you to our regional committees who worked tirelessly in December in order to support society’s less fortunate. Lynette Robinson, on behalf of the NS Area Council 1, delivered a donation of socks, mitts, gloves, coats, and various other items to the Phoenix Youth Shelter based in Halifax, NS on December 17, 2020. Phoenix was the only organization accepting this kind of donation in the Halifax Regional Municipality. More information about this organization is available at phoenixyouth.ca

Despite the first real cold day of the Season, UNDE members in Gagetown did a good job to inform the public about the current campaign from PSAC/UNDE.  When governments contract out public sector work to private companies, profits take priority over services, and everyone, except the corporate shareholders, ends up paying the price.  More details on the campaign can be found at: https://uncoverthecost.ca/

Transgender Day of Remembrance started as a vigil in 1999 to commemorate the death of Rita Hester, a transgender woman killed in 1998. Rita Hester was a highly vocal and visible member of the Trans community in Boston Massachusetts. Violence against transgender and gender non-conforming people, particularly Black and Brown transgender women, is at an all-time epidemic proportion. While this day is a day of mourning and remembrance, it is also a day to reflect on contributions to the Transgender community and the power of their survival.
