To celebrate the National Aboriginal Day, the Greater Moncton Human Rights Committee took advantage of its last meeting on June 14th. Guéganne Martin Doucet, a Mik'maq painter/sculptor artist from the Shédiac region and originally from Escuminac, New Brunswick,was invited to do a presentation on the making of a dream catcher, its history and origin.

Once again, members in New Brunswick stood up to the challenge and made certain members in their local received an information flyer and stickers for the action day on June 7th in response to the federal budget.

The 50th NBFL convention was held in Moncton from May 29th to June 1st. Delegates worked hard during this convention to adopt many resolutions.The two PSAC representatives on the NBFL executive are Philip Lillies (NAT) and Marie-Ange Losier (CEIU). Michel Boudreau was re-elected president of the NBFL.The NBFL now has over 47,000 affiliated members.Congratulations to all!

The province of New-Brunswick and the Public Service Alliance of Canada were alive with color this past month as the cities of Fredericton, Saint John and Moncton celebrated their respective Pride weeks, all with the participation of the PSAC.After walking in both the Fredericton and Saint John pride parades, Sandy Harquail, LGBT Director for PSAC Atlantic, was the moderator for Moncton River of Pride’s community forum, which focused on the celebration of Trans people and was also attended by other members and employees of the PSAC.

Workers at Alaqsite’w Gitpu School in the Listuguj First Nation did not go on strike August 26 as anticipated.An August 26 letter from the lawyer for the Listuguj First Nation Government clarified the Chief and Council’s bargaining position on wages for school staff.  Based on this communication, an agreement seemed closer than expected. The Union contacted the Employer’s lawyer immediately and asked to return to the bargaining table.

Summer months didn't stop the USGE/PSAC members in Miramichi from working hard to save their jobs and the long gun registry.

This year events for Pride Week in Moncton were organized around the international theme of One heart, one world, one pride.The week was a great success; everything from the flag raising, to the first pride luncheon, community forum on celebrating trans people, family activities, film, parade, etc.
