Senator Percy Down met with CEIU and UVAE members recently. Senator down expressed concern on the effect job cuts will have on service to veterans and the large economic impact on workers, the community and the Province.

Union officials joined together to meet with the Federal Minister of Taxation, Gail Shea to discuss their concerns about the impacts of the Federal cuts coming to the province. The concerns voiced by the members included the cuts to Veterans Affairs, the EI Processing Centre in Montague and the Licensing Office at DFO. Those attending the meeting were:

On March 8th, International Women's Day, Sisters Dawn Hardy and Debi Buell attended an outdoor Rally and Information session on the investigation into the Robo Calls to Elections Canada. Some of the speakers included Brother Carl Pursey, President, PEI Fed; Sister Lori MacKay, CUPE President; Mary Boyd; Leo Broderick, and Wayne Easter who explained how these Robo Calls were different and need to be investigated.

A three-way initiative supported by the Province, the City of Charlottetown, and unions representing federal employees on the Island is being launched to preserve federal jobs."Maintaining a strong federal presence on the Island is absolutely vital," says Premier Robert Ghiz. "And I am very pleased to see so many groups and individuals working together to make a strong case to Ottawa."The initiative is in response to widespread reports that the Government of Canada’s efforts to balance the books will result in lay-offs or the elimination of federal positions.

On the evening of Wednesday, March 8th, the PEIPSAC Human Rights committee had their Annual General Meeting. After reviewing the minutes and moving a balanced budget, the Election of Officers took place, facilitated by Donna MacDonald of CEIU. We are pleased to inform you that the  new local executive mimics the last, having all members retaining their respective positions: Debi Buell (UVAE) - President; Dave Clow (DCL)  - Vice President; Karolyn Walsh (UVAE) - Secretary; Jody LaPierre (UVAE) - Treasurer.
