PSAC women gathered recently at the Inn at the Pier to talk about their role in saving Canada Post, re-thinking child care, stopping Harper’s cuts and contacting the Senate on Bill C 377 as well as have a little fun. Actions on all these issues was achieved. Guest Speaker J. D. Samuelson spoke and showed her film “Women of Confederation”. We highly recommend this short animated film. Becka Viau, artist and activist, spoke on Saturday and inspired all with her commitment and wisdom on women’s and human rights issues.

This week, PSAC members who reside in the NB Southwest riding received a flyer also known as 'ten percenter' from their local MP, John Williamson.  This flyer had only one intent: attack public sector benefits.  We are replying by sending him our very own 'ten percenter'! The REVP for PSAC Atlantic, Jeannie Baldwin, also sent him a letter requesting a meeting to explain the valuable services PSAC members deliver on a daily basis.

On September 27-28, 2014, 14 Aboriginal PSAC members came from all over the Atlantic to K’jipuktuk (Halifax) to attend Our Communities, Our Union, Our Rights: An introduction to the PSAC for Aboriginal Members.  The training provided a forum for members to discuss critical issues facing Aboriginal people in their union, in their workplaces and in society. It also made space for members to learn from each other’s experiences.  Participants came away with a solid foundation in union basics and a grasp on how to engage in the union to advance Aboriginal rights.

Jeannie Baldwin, REVP Atlantic joined members from UVAE at a Town Hall Meeting on Health Care recently sponsored by the Council of Canadians and CUPE. Presenters included Maude Barlow, Paul Moist and Mike McBain.

The PEI Health Care coalition together with the Trinity United Church held a fundraiser lobster dinner on August 28th, to raise funds for an immigrant family. Jeannie Baldwin, REVP Atlantic joined PSAC members at the fundraiser.
