K’JIPUKTUK (Halifax) -- The panel reviewing hydraulic fracturing in Nova Scotia has completed seven community information sessions to date across the province. During this review, the Nova Scotia Native Women’s Association and the Native Council of Nova Scotia have announced official opposition to fracking.  Dr. Wheeler has been clear that much is still unknown about the risks and benefits to Nova Scotians.  Given that: •             All three political parties have stated that the existing moratorium will remain until fracking is proven to be safe;

On the 19th of every month, we are asking our members to be creative in highlighting the number 19 such as: standing outside your workplace for 19 minutes, wearing a piece of clothing with the number 19 or coming up with the 19 best ways of getting rid of the Harper Conservative government.

In celebration of its 4th anniversary of their certification, St. Thomas University Support and Administrative Union (STUSAU) organized a rally at STU where PSAC locals and unions from both St. Thomas University and UNB pledged their support of solidarity.   The United Campus Labour Council was out in full force.

On May 23-25, 2014, twenty members age 30 and under from the four Atlantic Provinces came to Halifax to attend the PSAC Atlantic Young Workers Symposium.  This was the third event geared specifically to young workers to take place in the region since 2009, and the biggest yet.

The Parliamentary Budget Officer released a new report today, concluding that it costs almost nothing extra to pay sick leave to federal civil servants. This is because most departments don't have policies in place to backfill for sick leave.
