The Eskasoni Teachers’ Union (PSAC Local 80510) is made up of over 100 teachers and teacher’s aides serving the Mi’kmaq community of Eskasoni. The membership is comprised of both Indigenous and non-Indigenous members, who work as educators in four different schools. They are a relatively young local, achieving their first collective agreement in 2010. Since then, they have established themselves as a fixture within the community of Eskasoni, sponsoring sports teams, cultural events, and annual bursaries. They have made financial donations to various charitable causes within the community.

To highlight the International Human Rights Day, members of the PSAC Greater Moncton Human Rights committee volunteered at the Karin Kitchen, an organization serving meals for people in need.  They helped cutting veggies, serving people, cleaning the tables, washing the dishes.  The committee also donated $200 to the Karing Kitchen to help them in their generosity.  Thank you all for volunteering your help in the community is always appreciated.

At the last Greater Moncton Human Rights committee meeting, members had the pleasure to welcome representatives of the Moncton Cavalier Riding Club, who came to talk about the work their therapeutic riding club does for people with disabilities.  This group receives some financial assistance from the United Way campaign therefore if your local would like to have someone come to make a presentation to better inform your members on their work, please do not hesitate to contact your PSAC regional representative, Monique Laplante from the Moncton PSAC regional office for more details.
