This past week (January 30-February 2nd), our bargaining team met with CBSA/Treasury Board in an effort to bring the parties closer to a new contract.

A noon time BBQ held by Parks Local 90023 was well received by the 50 plus members in attendance.   Patty Ducharme, PSAC National Executive Vice-President gave an informative speech on the current round of collective bargaining, emphasisizing the need for members to stay united and support their team.

Just one week after PSAC started a new round of negotiations with Parks Canada, PSAC members at the KouchibouguacNational Parkplantgated and partied to rally support. Members of the executive also engaged the visiting public, distributing postcards and first aid kits.

Forty PSAC Atlantic women gathered in Halifax this weekend extended their solidarity to the 420 striking museum workers in Ottawa. This photo sends their message and a $400 collection has been sent their way.

Members across the Island received the latest Treasury Board bargaining update today advising of exploratory discussions between PSAC and Treasury Board with the objective of reaching early collective agreements.UVAE National Vice-President, Debi Buell,  distributes the updates to Treasury Board Members outside her workplace.

Workers at Alaqsite’w Gitpu School in the Listuguj First Nation did not go on strike August 26 as anticipated.An August 26 letter from the lawyer for the Listuguj First Nation Government clarified the Chief and Council’s bargaining position on wages for school staff.  Based on this communication, an agreement seemed closer than expected. The Union contacted the Employer’s lawyer immediately and asked to return to the bargaining table.

Tuesday, August 10, 2010 will go down in history as a significant day for the Teaching Assistants' Union of Memorial University.  On that day, TAUMUN's Negotiating Team proudly signed its first collective agreement with MUN.

The unionized staff at Alaqsite’w Gitpu School in the Mi’gmaq First Nation of Listuguj voted strongly in support of a strike at a meeting this month. Workers will be in a legal strike position on August 26.

Graduate, Teaching and Research Assistants at Memorial University of Newfoundland have voted overwhelmingly in favour of a first Collective Agreement with the University. “This is an historic moment,” said Juan Acevedo, President of the Teaching Assistants’ Union of Memorial University of Newfoundland.
