FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 24, 2017 PSAC Members Mark the One-Year Anniversary of the Pheonix Pay System HALIFAX, NS – Today members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) who are employed by the Government of Canada will be taking various actions to demonstrate their frustration with the Pheonix pay system on its one year-anniversary.

Members of USGE-PSAC local 60001 in Miramichi, NB organized 3 sessions in January on the importance of Unions and the Labour Movement.  They served free lunch to over 70 of their members and showed a video on the importance of unions and the labour movement as a whole.  The event turned out to be a great success and the members said they felt proud and motivated by the educational movie they had watched.    

Sisters and Brothers, The government is refusing to fix the Phoenix pay system and that’s certainly no reason to celebrate. What can you do?

Sisters and Brothers, Please find in attachment a letter I sent to the female MPs in our Region in regards to child care.  Our members are directly impacted by the high cost of child care and year after year, resolutions are adopted at our Conventions urging our Union to take concrete steps in working towards quality affordable child care system in Canada.

This February, we celebrate Black History / African Heritage Month. The contributions made to society by our Brothers and Sisters from the Black/African communities have made our country a better place to live.  Not only have they shaped our nation, they have shaped our own Union as dedicated members and committed staff members. We honour all of those who contributed to PSAC’s success, such as Brother Cal Best. Our boardroom in the Halifax Regional Office is dedicated in his name to remind us every day of the important contribution made by our racially visible members.  

Sisters and Brothers, I have personally sent a letter to every MP in our Region in regards to Bill C-27.  I strongly encourage you to send our template letter to Bill Morneau, the Minister of Finance, telling him that Bill C-27, an Act to amend the Pension Benefits Standards Act, is an attack on the retirement security of workers.
